Women’s Health, La Jolla

For the women medicine forgot.

If you have been told it was normal. Dismissed when you knew something was wrong. Given twelve minutes for a question that needed an hour. We built this for you.

Care led by board-certified OB/GYN physicians, in coordination with our integrative medicine, mental health, and longevity teams.

From Your Care Team

We started this practice for the women we kept watching get failed.

For the new mother whose body felt foreign and was told it was just stress. For the executive in her forties who could not sleep, could not think, and was told her labs were fine. For the woman in pain during intimacy who was handed a tube of lubricant and sent home.

They were not making it up. They were not exaggerating. They were not difficult patients.
They were women being failed by a system that no longer had time for them.

We knew there was a better way to practice medicine. Slower. More curious. More respectful. A way that begins with the woman, not the appointment slot. A way that treats her hormones, her heart, her brain, her relationships, and her future as one connected story.

So we built it. This is where you stop having to convince a doctor that something is wrong. This is where the work begins.

With care,
Your Essenza Women’s Health team

What Is At Stake

The decade you ignore is the decade that decides everything.

Perimenopause is not a phase to survive. It is the longevity window most women never get told about. The choices made in your forties and fifties shape how you live in your seventies and eighties.

i.

Your Heart

Cardiovascular risk rises sharply when estrogen drops. Most women are never screened for it in the years that matter most.

ii.

Your Brain

Hormonal shifts affect mood, sleep, memory, and long term cognitive health. Brain fog is not just inconvenience. It is a signal.

iii.

Your Bones

The years after menopause are when bone loss accelerates. Decisions made now decide how strong you stay for decades.

iv.

Your Body

Metabolism shifts. Energy changes. Intimacy can feel different. These are real, treatable, and worth attention.

What We Treat

Routine care, and the care no one gives.

We take everything seriously. The annual check up. And the thing you have stopped bringing up because no one would listen.

Intimate & Sexual Health

Care for the things they told you not to talk about.

For too long, women have been told that pain, dryness, and loss of desire are just part of life. That nothing can be done. That it is in their head. That they should try harder.

None of that is true.

Pain is not a normal part of intimacy.
Low libido is not a personality.
Dryness is not just an inconvenience.
These are clinical conditions with clinical solutions.

Our OB/GYN physicians treat the symptoms that other practices skip past. We take time to understand what you are experiencing, ask the questions other doctors do not have time for, and build a treatment plan that actually addresses the cause. From hormonal care to vaginal and vulvar treatments to pelvic floor support, our care is honest, individualized, and led by women’s health experts who specialize in this work.

Conditions We Treat

Painful Sex Dyspareunia and intimacy related pain.
Low Libido Changes in desire and sexual response.
Vaginal Dryness Hormonal and non hormonal causes.
Vulvodynia Chronic vulvar pain and discomfort.
Vaginismus Involuntary pelvic muscle response.
Vulvar Irritation Burning, itching, and chronic inflammation.
Recurrent Vaginitis Yeast, bacterial, and recurring infections.
Pelvic Floor Concerns Tension, weakness, and prolapse issues.
Menopause as Longevity Medicine

The most important decade of your hormonal life.

Perimenopause through post menopause is not a phase to survive. It is the most powerful window for protecting your heart, brain, bones, and energy for the decades ahead. We treat it that way.

Stage One

Perimenopause

Often begins in your late thirties or forties

The years before menopause are when hormones begin to shift. Many women feel the changes long before they are recognized. We help you identify what is happening and start care early.

Common Symptoms

Irregular cycles, sleep changes, mood shifts, brain fog, weight gain, anxiety, and early hormonal changes.

Stage Two

Menopause

Typically between forty five and fifty five

Menopause is more than a single moment. It is a major hormonal transition. We help you manage symptoms and protect your long term health through this stage.

Common Symptoms

Hot flashes, night sweats, vaginal dryness, painful intimacy, mood changes, cognitive shifts, and bone density loss.

Stage Three

Post Menopause

The years that follow

Post menopause is when long term health decisions matter most. We focus on cardiovascular, cognitive, bone, and metabolic health to help you stay strong and vibrant for decades.

Where We Focus

Cardiovascular protection, bone density, cognitive health, ongoing hormone management, and intimate wellness.

Hormone Therapy

Hormone optimization, done with care.

We offer hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and hormone optimization, including bioidentical options where clinically appropriate. Every plan is built around your symptoms, your health history, and your personal goals. No protocols. No one size fits all.

The First Visit

The conversation that changes everything.

Most patients tell us their first visit feels nothing like a medical appointment. That is by design.

You arrive. There is no clipboard, no rushed intake at a counter.

You sit down with your physician. Not a nurse. Not a medical assistant. The physician.

The visit begins with a real conversation. About your symptoms. Your history. The treatments you have tried. The ones that did not work. The things you have stopped bringing up because no one would listen.

We ask the questions you have been waiting for someone to ask. About sleep, intimacy, mood, energy, cycles, family history. About the symptoms you have been told were normal.

By the end of the visit, you have something most women have never been given. A real plan. Built around you. Built for the long term.

From there, your care continues. Hormone therapy if appropriate. Vaginal and vulvar treatments when needed. Pelvic floor support. Contraception guidance. Preventive care. And ongoing coordination with our integrative medicine, mental health, and longevity teams.

Frequently Asked

Common questions about women’s health at Essenza.

What kind of women’s health care does Essenza offer?
Essenza Wellness offers comprehensive concierge gynecology and women’s health care. Our board-certified OB/GYN physicians provide well-woman exams, contraception counseling, menopause care, hormone optimization, and intimate health treatment. We also treat concerns that are often skipped in traditional practices, including painful intimacy, low libido, vaginal dryness, vulvodynia, vaginismus, recurrent vaginitis, and pelvic floor issues.
How is Essenza different from my current OB/GYN?
Most OB/GYN visits are limited to short appointments and a narrow set of concerns. At Essenza, your first visit begins with a detailed conversation directly with the physician, often lasting an hour or more. We have the time to understand your full history, the symptoms you have stopped bringing up, and the goals you have for your long term health. Care is coordinated with our integrative medicine, mental health, and longevity teams.
Do you treat perimenopause and menopause?
Yes. Perimenopause and menopause care is a central part of our practice. We treat the full range of symptoms including hot flashes, night sweats, sleep disruption, brain fog, mood changes, weight gain, bone density concerns, vaginal dryness, and painful intimacy. We also focus on the longer-term protective work that this stage of life requires for cardiovascular, cognitive, and bone health.
Do you offer hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and bioidentical hormones?
Yes. Our physicians offer hormone replacement therapy and hormone optimization, including bioidentical options when clinically appropriate. Every plan is individualized based on your symptoms, your medical history, and your goals. We do not use one size fits all protocols. We work with you to find the right approach and monitor your response carefully over time.
I have been told my painful sex is normal. Is it?
No. Painful sex is never simply normal. It is a real, treatable medical condition with many possible causes including hormonal changes, vulvodynia, vaginismus, vaginal dryness, pelvic floor dysfunction, and dermatologic conditions. Our physicians take time to identify the cause and build a treatment plan that addresses it. You should not have to live with this.
Do you accept insurance for women’s health services?
Because our care requires significantly more time and a more personalized approach than insurance allows, many of our women’s health services are offered outside of insurance. We are happy to provide a superbill that you may submit to your insurance plan or health savings account for possible reimbursement. We are transparent about cost and discuss it openly during your initial inquiry.
Do I need to be a concierge member to see your OB/GYN?
You can begin with a consultation to determine the right level of care for you. Some patients work with our women’s health team within the broader concierge membership model. Others access specific women’s health services directly. We discuss what makes sense based on your needs during your initial inquiry.
Where is Essenza Wellness located?
Essenza Wellness is located at 8950 Villa La Jolla Dr., Suite C212, La Jolla, CA 92037. We serve patients across La Jolla, San Diego, and throughout California. Initial visits and most ongoing care happen in our La Jolla office.
How do I get started?
Schedule a consultation by phone at 858-267-4872 or through the inquiry form on our website. In your first visit, we listen, take a full history, and outline what care could look like for you. From there, we build a personal plan and a clear sequence of next steps.
