A Note from Dr. Maya

Two decades of training across neurology, sleep, and women’s neurological health.

Dr. Maya Vaysbrot is a board-certified neurologist and sleep medicine specialist practicing at Essenza Wellness in La Jolla, California. She treats complex neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions through an integrative, patient-centered approach. Originally from New York City, she attended Long Island University before earning her medical degree from NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine, where her interest in neuroscience led her toward neurology and neurophysiology.

Dr. Vaysbrot completed her neurology residency at SUNY Stony Brook University Hospital, where she also conducted research in neurophysiology. She went on to complete an additional fellowship year in neurophysiology, expanding her expertise in complex neurological diagnostics and treatment.

Early in her career, she worked alongside neurosurgeons at Southcoast Health, performing nerve conduction studies and EMGs for patients undergoing spine surgery. During that period she also trained within Massachusetts Sleep Centers under the faculty of Harvard Medical School, earning board certification in Sleep Medicine.

Dr. Vaysbrot later joined the neurology faculty at the University of Arizona College of Medicine at Banner University Medical Center Phoenix, specializing in complex migraine, regional pain syndromes, and traumatic brain injury. Alongside her clinical practice, she taught medical students, residents, and fellows as clinical faculty.

Following the pandemic, Dr. Vaysbrot relocated to San Diego and joined Scripps Clinic Medical Group, where she developed a focused practice in reproductive neurology and in migraine and neurological conditions affecting women across every stage of life.

Her recent work centers on patients who have not found relief through standard treatment. That includes FDA-cleared TMS, ketamine infusion therapy, and GLP-1 receptor agonist treatment for neuropsychiatric and metabolic conditions. Every intervention is chosen because the evidence supports it.

Today, Dr. Vaysbrot practices neurology and sleep medicine at Essenza in La Jolla, working alongside our psychiatry, longevity, and women’s health teams so that care follows the whole person rather than the boundaries between specialties. To ask about care, contact our office.
