Board-certified
adult psychiatrist
Evidence-based, patient-centered psychiatric care for adults navigating depression, anxiety, ADHD, and trauma.
Areas of FocusDr. Peyman Tashkandi is a board-certified psychiatrist who views this work as far more than a profession. It is a calling that stems from genuine fascination with how the human mind works and heals. What drives his practice is the dynamic interplay between neuroscience, psychology, and the social forces that shape each person’s experience.
Dr. Tashkandi earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2008. He went on to complete his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences, followed by a residency in General Adult Psychiatry at the University of South Alabama College of Medicine. He later completed advanced fellowship training at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, finishing in 2021.
Following his fellowship, Dr. Tashkandi served as Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at USC Keck School of Medicine, where he taught and trained the next generation of psychiatrists. He went on to found the Tash Mind Institute, a practice focused on the care of adult patients living with ADHD, depression, anxiety, and PTSD.
Throughout his career, Dr. Tashkandi has developed extensive experience with interventional psychiatry, including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS). These advanced, FDA-cleared treatments are particularly valuable for adult patients with treatment-resistant depression and other conditions where conventional approaches have not provided sufficient relief.
Dr. Tashkandi has worked with adult patients from remarkably diverse backgrounds, from those facing significant adversity to individuals with every advantage life can offer. These experiences have taught him something fundamental: emotional pain touches everyone, regardless of circumstances. Real healing happens when patients are seen as whole people, not as a list of symptoms.
Whether working with an adult navigating past trauma, a professional dealing with overwhelming stress, or a patient managing chronic anxiety or ADHD, Dr. Tashkandi’s commitment remains the same. He approaches each person with curiosity, empathy, and respect for their unique story.
Today, Dr. Tashkandi collaborates with the longevity, neurology, and women’s health teams at Essenza Wellness in La Jolla to provide thoughtful, evidence-based psychiatric care for adult patients. His approach combines established medical treatments with advanced interventions to help patients build lives of clarity, stability, and lasting wellness.
From UCLA to South Alabama to USC, more than a decade of training and practice across adult psychiatric care and the most advanced interventional treatments.
