The Healthspan Gap

The most important number in your future health.

Most Americans now live well into their late seventies. For many people, the last ten to fourteen years are filled with chronic illness, memory loss, and the slow loss of independence. Those years often feel very different from the rest of life.

We call this difference the healthspan gap. It is the space between how long you live and how well you live. Closing that gap is the goal of longevity medicine.

At Essenza Wellness, our longevity program is built around prevention, early detection, and treating the root cause of problems before they grow. We use advanced testing to find risk early, and we build a personal plan to help you stay sharp, strong, and active for years to come.

Our Approach

Four pillars of longevity care.

A full longevity program looks at the body and mind together. Every Essenza patient gets a plan built around these four areas.

I

Biological Age & Healthspan

We measure how your body is really aging, not just how many birthdays you have had. This shows us where to focus to keep you healthy longer.

What We Test

Epigenetic biological age, body composition, VO2max, grip strength, ApoB, lipoprotein(a), hsCRP

II

Brain Health & Cognitive Performance

A sharp mind is the heart of healthy aging. We check memory, focus, and brain function early and build a plan to protect them.

What We Test

Cognitive assessment, brain mapping (QEEG) when indicated, sleep evaluation, neurological exam

III

Hormone & Metabolic Health

Your hormones and metabolism shape how you feel, sleep, and age. We measure them in depth and help bring them into balance.

What We Test

Thyroid panel, sex hormones, fasting insulin, HbA1c, comprehensive metabolic panel, micronutrients

IV

Early Risk Assessment

Your family history, genetics, and early markers show us where your real risk lives. We act on that information before problems start.

What We Test

Cardiovascular risk panel, family and genetic history, inflammation markers, pharmacogenomics

Advanced Evaluation

What a longevity evaluation actually includes.

A real longevity assessment goes far beyond a normal annual physical. Our team looks at the body systems that decide how well and how long you live, with the depth and time that concierge care allows.

Each evaluation is built around your goals, your medical history, and your risk factors. The result is a clear plan that fits you.

  1. Comprehensive Medical Review Personal history, family history, current symptoms, lifestyle factors, and a full physical exam. The kind of visit medicine should always be.
  2. Advanced Biomarker Testing Beyond standard labs. We measure inflammation, insulin sensitivity, lipid particles, biological age, and other markers used in longevity medicine.
  3. Hormone and Metabolic Panels Thyroid, adrenal, sex hormones, metabolic health, and body composition. The systems that decide how you feel and age.
  4. Cognitive and Neurological Assessment A baseline of your brain health through our neurology team. Includes cognitive testing and brain mapping when clinically useful.
  5. Personal Risk Review A clear picture of where your real risk lives, whether for heart, brain, or metabolic issues. And a clear plan to act on it now.
  6. Ongoing Monitoring and Follow Up Longevity care is not a single visit. Your plan grows as your data grows, with steady coordination across our practices.

Frequently Asked

Common questions about longevity medicine.

What is longevity medicine?
Longevity medicine is a type of preventive medicine that focuses on extending healthspan, which is the number of years a person lives in good health. It uses advanced testing, biological age measurement, and personal prevention strategies to find and treat the root causes of aging related decline before symptoms appear. At Essenza Wellness in La Jolla, longevity medicine is delivered through a concierge model and coordinated by board-certified physicians in internal medicine, neurology, psychiatry, and women’s health.
How is this different from a regular annual physical?
A standard physical checks for common conditions using a basic panel of tests. A longevity evaluation looks much deeper. It measures biological age, advanced markers of heart and metabolic health, inflammation, hormones, brain function, and personal risk factors. It is also a long term plan rather than a once a year visit. Your plan grows and shifts as your data does.
What is biological age, and how is it measured?
Biological age is a measure of how old your body is functioning compared to your real age in years. It is calculated using validated biomarkers such as epigenetic markers, inflammation, metabolic measures, and body composition. Knowing your biological age tells us whether you are aging faster or slower than expected, and what to focus on to slow it down.
Who is a good fit for longevity care?
Longevity medicine helps a wide range of patients. Adults in their thirties and forties who want to invest in their future health benefit. So do people in their fifties, sixties, and beyond who want to stay sharp, strong, and independent. Patients with a family history of heart disease, cancer, memory loss, or metabolic conditions often gain the most from early evaluation and prevention.
Does insurance cover longevity medicine?
Essenza Wellness operates on a concierge membership model. Most longevity evaluations, advanced biomarker testing, and personalized care services are not covered by traditional insurance plans. We provide clear pricing for membership and individual services. We are happy to discuss costs during your first consultation.
How long does a longevity evaluation take?
The full evaluation usually takes three to four weeks from your first visit to the review of your personal care plan. The initial consultation is 45 to 60 minutes. Labs and testing are then scheduled over two to three weeks. The results review and planning visit takes 60 to 90 minutes. After that, ongoing care continues as part of your membership.
